Fast, Worship, Pray

As a church, we are setting aside September 14 to fast and pray for God’s leading and direction for this next season of ministry. Everyone is invited to participate by fasting from food for the day (as your health permits) and spending some extra time in prayer.
We will finish things off by gathering together at 7pm at the TriCity building for an evening of prayer and worship! All our welcome whether you are part of TriCity church or not.
May God move in a gracious and mighty way in the TriCities and beyond through the Gospel of Jesus.

A few thoughts on fasting…
Fasting and prayer have long been a healthy pattern in the life of God’s people. We see references to them throughout the Bible and in response to a variety of situations for the individual and the church community.
- In times of crisis (1 Samuel 12:16-23)
- In times of repentance (1 Samuel 7:6)
- In the face of an overwhelming task (Ezra 8:21&23)
- When seeking direction from God (Acts 13:1-3)
The effect of fasting is humbling, clarifying and hopeful often all at the same time.
Humbling, because our physical weakness and ultimate dependence upon God is quickly made apparent as we experience hunger.
Clarifying, because though we are always dependent upon God, we often forget it and live under the impression that we are self-sufficient.
Hopeful, because our physical hunger reminds us of our need for the sustaining provision of God – and there is no greater sustenance than Jesus himself who has provided for all our needs in his gracious work on the cross. A work which guarantees the loving care of God for all who believe.
